The play tells the story of the O’Sheas, a cash-challenged, Irish-Catholic family just trying to get through 1973. Linda O’Shea, our 19-year old narrator, is attempting to re-enact for the audience the most turbulent day of her life, her own, very personal Saturday Night Massacre…but her family keeps interrupting, insisting on telling their side of the story. The 1970s was a time of old school living. No Facebook, no tweets, no texting. A time when public ridicule in a close-knit, hermetically sealed Catholic parish was the ultimate nightmare. When Linda’s mother leave it to Linda to tell her younger sister about the birds and the bees, the bawdy conversation is somehow overheard by the parish priest…and Father Lovett is not amused. He sets out to confront the family about “the corruption of their eldest daughter’s soul.”
The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse (11/10/23-11/19/23)
High school drama teacher Logan is desperate to save her career. Always ready to rock the boat, she is now facing a petition that calls for her termination. So she pursued several grants ranging from education to cultural awareness to bring together three actors that will devise a play about the first Thanksgiving. Or Native American Heritage Month. With yoga instructor (and boyfriend) Jaxton, elementary teacher Caden, and professional actress Alicia, Logan is out to save her career and tell a culturally conscious story about what it means to be Native American … even though all of the performers are white. Punctuated by offensive (and completely real) Thanksgiving songs from educators’ social media, Larissa FastHorse’s The Thanksgiving Play is a hilarious satiric jab at political correctness, social wokeness, and cultural assumptions.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill by Lanie Robertson (3/1/24-3/10/24)
Based on the legendary Billie Holiday, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill is a play with music that will make you feel like you’re front and center witnessing the jazz legend herself perform and share anecdotes about her life. The play takes place in March of 1959 at a run-down bar in South Philadelphia, Emerson’s Bar and Grill, where Holiday performs her well-known jazz songs and charms the audience with her natural joy for music and life. Though the narrative is historical fiction, Holiday shares real stories about her life about everything from love affairs to substance abuse and segregation. The performance is one of her last before her death in July of 1959. Holiday is accompanied by Jimmy Powers on the piano, a good friend and love of hers, who calms her and helps her as she becomes increasingly intoxicated throughout the night. Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill will both warm and break your heart and leave you humming Billie Holiday’s classic tunes for the rest of the week.
